CONDITIONS RELATED TO DISCOLORATIONS*

A discoloration is simply any abnormal color appearing in and on the dead human body. The discolorations already described involved color changes and possibly some swellings. There were no breaks or tears in the skin surface with the exception of the razor abrasion. In the following conditions, a discoloration is present but, in addition, there is some form of disruption of the skin surface (Fig. 20–6). The emphasis is not so much on the pathological origins of these conditions, but rather on the treatment of these conditions from an embalming standpoint.
